Welcome to North Kessock
 |
North Kessock is a peaceful, unspoilt Highland Village on the Black Isle. It is not in fact an island but a peninsula linked to Inverness by the Kessock Bridge, part of the A9 the main arterial route to the North of Scotland. The Kessock Bridge replaced the Kessock ferry in 1982. The ferry plied between the villages of South Kessock in Inverness and North Kessock on the Black Isle. The Eilean Dubh and Rosehaugh ferries carried vehicles and foot passengers and in the old days livestock, on the five minute crossing which provided a vital link between the North and Inverness.

Black Isle in Gaelic is 'Eilean Dubh' from which the building which includes the studio apartment takes its name. The apartment is located almost opposite the old pier where the ferries crossed and where there was a constant queue of vehicles waiting to cross to Inverness. It is in the old part of the village which is steeped in history and still retains much of its original character and is part of a building which was originally stables for the coach house and dates from around the early 1800's.

Many different boats sail from the Caledonian canal opposite North Kessock through the Beauly Firth to the Moray Firth and then to the North sea, passing the picturesque coastal villages of the Black Isle which include North Kessock, Fortrose, Rosemarkie and Cromarty. The Famous pod of Bottlenose Dolphins inhabits these waters and the visitor may be lucky enough to see them between North Kessock and Cromarty either from the shore or from the dolphin watching boat trips leaving from Inverness or Cromarty. There are many other activities the visitor can enjoy including golf, horse riding and sailing and there are many other interesting things to see and do.
